Romeo & Juliet: Classical Reboot

An interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, exploring the consistent motif of night and day, to represent the contrast between Romeo and Juliet.

The reboot aims to reflect the dialogue of Romeo and Juliet, through elegant forms, typography, and contrasts of imperial blue (to represent night), ivory (to represent day), and gold-foil stamping (as Romeo and Juliet together).

An introductory card featuring embossing/debossing finishes intends to visualise the sun and moon having a ‘fixed’ cycle, which pre-determines Romeo and Juliet’s fate.

The mini-publication represents the play’s first clear reference to the change from night to day occurring in Act 2 Scene 2. Across the publication, the user is taken on a journey from night to morning, with a graphical sun appearing more prominent on each page.

A character brochure aids users to compare Romeo with the night, moon, and shadows, whilst Juliet is represented as the sun illuminating the darkness
